Tips & Advices...

Here are a few things to keep in mind when taking care of
your dog. If you have a specific question please feel free to
email us and we'll try to help you.
Brushing should be done daily, or on a weekly basis at
minimum. Thoroughly brushing and combing the entire body of
your dog prevents matting. This also teaches your dog to get
used to brushing and being handled. Matting is tangled hair
caused by lack of brushing the dog's hair before and after it has
been bathed. Besides causing discomfort for the dog, mats are
also associated with inflammation and skin problems.

Dog's Nails should be trimmed at least once a month.
Long nails are terribly uncomfortable for the dog and can lead to
splayed feet. Furthermore, it aggravates back, hip, and arthritis
conditions. The longer the dog's nails are kept without trim, the
more difficult it will be to correct the problems caused by long
nails. This is due to the fact that the nail's vein grows as the nail
gets longer. This is why trimming your dog's nails frequently is
the best solution to keep your dog healthy and happy!

Summer Care for Canines:  Hot weather can makes us
all uncomfortable, and it poses special risks for your dog too.

  • If your dog is outside on a hot day, make sure he has a shady
spot to rest in. Doghouses are not a good shelter during the
summer as it can trap heat.

  • Never leave your dog in a closed vehicle on a hot day. The
temperature inside a car can rise to over 100 degrees in a
matter of minutes. Heatstroke and death can occur within
    minutes in warm temperatures.

  • Always provide plenty of cool, fresh water.

  • Take walks in the early mornings or evenings, when the sun's
heat is less intense. Also avoid prolonged exposure to hot
asphalt or sand, which can burn your dog's paws.

  • Keep your dog well-brushed and clean; also it is a good ideia to
have a bath with flea treatment to prevent these parasites off
    your dog.

  • Dogs, especially those with short hair, white fur, and pink skin,
    can sunburn.

  • Dogs that are brachycephalic ( short-faced ), such as Bulldogs,
Boxers,  Japanese chins, and Pekingese, have an especially
hard time in the heat because they do not pant as efficiently as
longer-faced dogs. Keep your brachycephalic dog inside with air-
    conditioning during hot days.
